My Dad was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2010. He was treated at Island Hospital and the Cancer Care Center in Anacortes. In the many days he spent at the hospital I would often have an overwhelming feeling like I needed to help in some way.
My Dad passed away in January of 2012, his name was Barnel Bragg. I created Your Story Foundation in his memory.

Knowing Karla for over 30 years she’s never ceases to amaze me me with her drive, joy, empathy and compassion she is truly soul-infusing! That’s why The Anacortes Cancer Walk has been a tradition for my family reminding us that no one should fight this disease alone.

Being an Anacortes native, I am feeding my soul by giving back to this community I so greatly adore. As a nurse and lifelong member of this community, I am honored to be a part of Your Story Foundation. The chance to provide even a small amount of financial relief to show patients and their families that we are a caring community is a strong motivation for me to participate.

Working with Karla has always brought me such great happiness. We started fundraising together many years ago on national-level cancer walks and talked about how nice it would be to have that money stay local. I remember on one particular long breast cancer walk, we had a really great talk about where the funding goes and how much is spent on administration. Karla lit up and said, “I should put on a walk where 100% of the money raised goes towards cancer patients.”
In that moment the Anacortes Cancer Walk was born and shortly after a lot of hard work, Karla made it happen.
And now, Your Story Foundation perfectly blends all of Karla’s talents and compassion to really truly give back to the community. I’m proud to be a small part of this incredible organization and support Karla and her incredibly caring spirit.
